Welcome.
You’re still in bed. Or maybe you got up but you haven’t really arrived in the day. Your body is vertical but your mind is still under the covers, and there’s a heaviness that doesn’t feel like sadness exactly, or anxiety exactly. It’s more like a reluctance that you can’t quite name.
Some mornings feel like this. The day is out there, waiting for you, and you’re in here, not ready. And the gap between those two things can feel enormous before you’ve even brushed your teeth.
I’m not going to ask you to feel grateful or motivated or energized. I’m not going to suggest that today is full of possibilities. You know that already, and knowing it hasn’t helped.
Instead, I want you to find one warm thing.
Look around your immediate space. Is there a mug of coffee or tea within reach? A blanket that still holds your body heat? If nothing is warm, cup your own hands around your face. Your palms against your cheeks. Your fingertips near your temples.
Warmth is the oldest safety signal your body knows. Long before language, before thought, before any of the systems that make you feel overwhelmed, there was warmth. Your nervous system responds to heat the way a dog responds to a familiar voice. It stops scanning for threats and starts settling.
Hold that warmth for a few seconds. You don’t have to do anything with it. Just notice that your hands are warm, or that the mug is warm, or that the blanket has been keeping you at exactly the right temperature all night without you asking it to.
This is your starting point. Not a motivational speech. Not a plan for the day. Just warmth against your skin and the recognition that you are here, in a body, in a room, and the day can wait thirty more seconds while you notice that.
Your Tiny Healing Habit today is called The First Warm Thing. Before you do anything else this morning, hold something warm in both hands. A mug. A towel from the dryer. A patch of sunlight on the blanket. Your own face. Stay with it for a slow count of ten. You’re not launching into your day. You’re greeting it.
