The Carrying Limit

A meditation for when you have been picking things up all week and putting nothing down

Welcome.

This one is for the middle of your week, when you have been picking things up since Monday and have not put anything down yet.

You are carrying a lot right now. You might not even notice it until you stop moving. Maybe it is a half-finished task you keep thinking about, or a conversation from earlier this week that will not stop replaying.

Take a deep breath and notice how that weight shows up in your body. Your shoulders might be up near your ears. Your jaw might be clenched. That is everything you have been holding.

Here is the thing most of us forget. You do not have to hold everything at the same time. Imagine you are walking through your front door with your arms full of grocery bags. You cannot get the key in the lock because your hands are too full. The obvious move is to set a few bags on the ground. You are not abandoning the groceries. You are just making room to open the door.

You can do the same thing right now with whatever is weighing on you. Pick the one thing that actually needs your attention today. Just one. Let the rest sit on the ground for a few hours. They will be there if you need them later, but you will be able to breathe while you get the door open.

Your Tiny Healing Habit for today is “The One-Bag Rule.” Grab a scrap of paper and write down everything on your mind right now. Look at the list. Circle one thing. That is your bag for the rest of today. The other bags can wait on the ground until tomorrow.
